All's Fair In Love & War- Nobunaga Epilogue
Epilogue
It had been some time since the Hono-ji incident. There had been a few territories try to rebel, but Nobunaga quashed those rebellions soundly. Sometimes just himself and his troops, but other times he would bring me along. It truly depended on what the situation needed. We were still waiting for Kennyo or the Uesugi-Takeda Alliance to make a move, but so far everything was quiet once we had stopped those small rebellions.
I had been away from my territory too long and it was time that I returned. Nobunaga true to his word, came with me. Jiro and Sato, accompanied me of course. Hideyoshi, Mitsuhide, and Masamune came with us as well, leaving Mitsunari and Ieyasu to keep watch over Azuchi.
“We’re going to have to figure out exactly how we are going to be splitting our time.” I said to Nobunaga as we rode beside each other.
He grinned at me. “Yes, we’ll have to work that out. But for now we’ll just go as we are needed.”
I couldn’t help the happy smile that came to my face. We truly were a couple, figuring out how things were going to work. Though it was a little more complicated than a simple your place or mine situation, given that we were both daimyo…but thankfully we had supportive vassals who could look after things in our stead while one of us was staying in the other’s territory.
“The bigger issue will come once we’ve accomplished your goal of uniting the country, Lord Nobunaga.” Sato said.
“I think that is more easily solvable.” Nobunaga replied.
I gave him a look. “How so?” I asked.
“I have always planned on building a new castle to rule from anyways. We’ll just have to live there.” He answered, giving me a roguish grin that made my heart pound in my chest.
“You really do want me to rule the world at your side then?” I replied.
Nobunaga reached over, his hand taking mine even as we continued to ride through the plains. He brought my hand to his lips. “I was not just spouting useless words. I do not say things I do not mean.”
I felt my cheeks flushing a bit, though a smile was on my lips. Though I knew Nobunaga meant his words… it was still hard to get used to. Most men that I had met here…they only wanted me to get my power. “I know…just takes some getting used to.”
“I will find a way to assure you that I mean what I say.” He told me.
“I would have thought them being on separate horses would solve some of their flirting.” Jiro commented.
“It’s truly like the rest of us aren’t even here.” Hideyoshi agreed.
“I think it’s sweet.” Sato said, grinning. “Besides, just look how happy they are.”
“And would either of you ever truly object to anything that makes your lords happy just because it doesn’t seem…appropriate to you two?” Mitsuhide added, his tone teasingly challenging.
After traveling for three days, we finally arrived at my territory. When we arrived to my castle, Kei was greeting us. “Welcome home, my lord.” She said. “And welcome to our guests.” She bowed to each of them in turn.
Other attendants were coming up to lead the others to their guest rooms, while Kei looked at me expectantly. “Is there already work?” I asked. “Jiro and Sato kept me updated on things and we had a system in place…”
“We just have to discuss preparations for the banquet, my lord.” Kei answered.
“A banquet?” Nobunaga asked.
“What are we celebrating? And I am more than happy to cook up the food.” Masamune said, grinning.
I wracked my brain for what the banquet could be for. “What are…”
“Did you really lose track of the date, my lord?” Jiro asked me.
I looked at him and then I let out a groan. “Dammit…”
“What is it?” Nobunaga asked.
“Nothing important and I still don’t understand why all of you insist on this stupid tradition…” I answered and then looked at my vassals and my aid.
“It’s her birthday.” Sato said, grinning.
“Your birthday?” Nobunaga asked. “That seems a perfect cause for celebration.”
“Well, it’s not really my birthday…or at least not the day I was born.” I said. “It’s the day I was officially adopted into the Yamada clan.”
“Still, it’s a day worth celebrating.” Nobunaga replied, his arm coming around my waist.
“You know your mother and father always loved celebrating it.” Jiro pointed out.
“Yeah and I loved it then too.” I replied. “But now…”
“We have also gotten word that some of the guests have already started to arrive.” Kei said. “Some are requesting an early audience with you as soon as possible, my lord.”
“Dammit.” I groaned, knowing exactly what it meant.
“You know it’s not that big of a deal.” Jiro said.
“It’s exhausting.” I replied.
“It’s only customary to receive tributes as a lord on your birthday.” Hideyoshi pointed out.
I sighed. “Alright, Kei let’s go.” I said. I gave Nobunaga a quick kiss. “I’ll see you later.”
Nobunaga watched Ava walk off with her aid. He wondered exactly what she found so exhausting about receiving tributes for her birthday…or adoption day in this case. Most of the others had already gone off, but Sato was still in the hall with him.
“You wanna know about it?” Sato asked, grinning.
Nobunaga looked at her. “You know why she dreads this?”
Sato nodded. “Follow me, my lord.” She said, gesturing for Nobunaga to follow her to a storage room deep within the castle. She slid open the door. “Here are all of the tributes she has received over the years.”
Nobunaga walked into the room and looked around. He took all of the gifts, noticing various trinkets and items…some clothes. He noticed a theme amongst all of these gifts. “They all have family crests on them…and none of them are the Yamada crest.” He noted.
“All of those tributes came from various men, second sons typically or the occasional warlord who wants to expand his own forces.” Sato explained. “Each gift has come with a marriage proposal.”
“I see.” Nobunaga replied. “So, these guests that are arriving, they are all men who will be bringing such gifts and marriage proposals?”
Sato nodded. “Yes, and that is exactly why Lord Ava finds it exhausting.”
A plan began to form in Nobunaga’s mind. “Sato, would you be able to show me to one of your most skilled tailors?”
Sato smiled. “Of course, my lord.”
A few days later…
It was finally the day of my “birthday” banquet. I had been dealing with a handful of visitors a day, bringing me gifts and their stupid proposals. The only thing that made it all bearable was getting to spend my nights with Nobunaga. After the hard days, spending time in his warm embrace was truly peaceful and relaxing.
I dressed for the banquet, putting on my finest robes and Sato helping me to style my hair and put on a bit of makeup. “You know, I hope once all of the guests see Nobunaga sitting beside me, they’ll back off.” I said.
“I am sure.” Sato replied. “If they’re smart they’ll be intimidated by Lord Nobunaga. Even though they really should be just as intimidated by you.”
“I am probably less patient with them and would be more likely to run them through.” I replied.
Once we had finished getting ready, we were heading to the banquet hall. Everyone was gathered there… though the seat that was beside mine, reserved for Nobunaga was curiously empty. As I walked past Hideyoshi I looked at him. He looked a bit guilty of something, but nodded.
“Lord Nobunaga said he would be running just a bit late.” He whispered to me. “But he swore he would be here.”
I nodded but frowned despite myself. I was really hoping that he would be here already. I composed myself and made my way over to my seat. I looked around the room, noticing all of my guests…thankful that at least Iksu wasn’t here.
“Thank you all for coming to celebrate my birthday.” I announced. “Now please enjoy the food and drink.”
The banquet began and soon, the guests started to get up to come before me and present their gifts. A string of men with gifts containing their family crests and offering marriage proposals. Lord Isamu, one of the few landed lords, was bowing before me and presenting his gift. It was a pretty kimono that was in the colors of his clan and had his family crest on the back.
“Lord Ava, please accept my gift and consider my humble gift and consider joining your forces and clan with mine, as my wife.”
I fought off a sigh. “I appreciate the gift, but I must decline your proposal.” I replied.
“I beg of you to reconsider, Lord Ava. I believe we would be a good match and I could help you…” Isamu began, before being interrupted by the doors at the back of the room sliding open and Nobunaga striding in. He wore his confident smirk and carried a parcel in his hands.
“Step aside.” Nobunaga said to Isamu.
Isamu’s eyes widened. “L-lord Nobunaga…?”
“Good you know who I am.” Nobunaga replied. “Now step aside.”
Isamu nodded, bowed and then quickly moved out of the way.
Nobunaga smiled at me as he came to kneel down directly in front of me, which surprised me and honestly flustered me a bit. “Ava, please accept my gift.” He said, placing the parcel he held in my hands.
I untied the twine and then pulled the lid off the box. I had to fight the gasp that threatened to escape at what I saw. Slowly, I lifted a beautiful haori from the package. It was white and pink and lined with black… but what stood out more was the crest on the back. One half of the crest was the Oda crest and the other half was the Yamada crest. They were of equal size and quality. It looked beautiful and what it all meant.
“Ava.” Nobunaga said my name so tenderly, causing me to look up at him. Then in a louder clearer voice, he spoke. “I will never ask you to be anyone other than who you are. You are a fiery, confident, and capable woman and warrior, and wise leader of your clan and your people. I will never ask you to be less than that. I want you at my side just as you are. I want you as my partner and my equal and I will accept nothing less. Rule at my side and continue to be the remarkable woman you are.”
My heart was pounding in my chest and I could feel tears stinging at my eyes. I wanted nothing more than to fling my arms around this man…this truly amazing man who really did mean every word he said. But I knew I couldn’t do that…at least right now. I smiled at him. “I accept your gift, Nobunaga and your offer. I will have no other man at my side but you.”
The other men in the room were all murmuring amongst themselves, but I didn’t care about them. Nobunaga was moving to sit beside me even as they all murmured, his arm coming around my waist. “I am glad you accept.” He said, placing a gentle kiss on my lips.
After the party, Nobunaga and I were in my room. I had put on the haori. “You made quite the show.” I said to him.
“That was part of the point.” Nobunaga replied, his hand coming up to stroke my cheek. “I had to make sure all of those fools know you are too good for them and that there is only one man to stand beside you.”
“What was the other part of the point?” I asked.
Nobunaga’s smile was tender. “To make sure you know that I want you at my side as my equal.” He told me, calling back to our conversation on the way here.
I smiled up at him, leaning into his touch. “I know…I’ve no doubts.”
“Good.” Nobunaga replied, pulling me closer. “I love you, Ava. You are my fireball and I want you by my side always and I will never ask you to change or step back.”
“I love you, Nobunaga.” I replied. “I love you for everything you are and I am happy to spend the rest of my life at your side and with you at mine.”
Our lips were soon meeting in a kiss that quickly became passionate. We sank to the floor together, our hands starting to undo the ties of each other’s clothes. When we broke the kiss, Nobunaga was giving me a devilish grin. “This haori looks wonderful on you. It’s a shame to take it off.”
I grinned at him. “Who says that it has to come off?” I replied. “We could remove everything except the haori.”
Nobunaga grinned. “I think that is a most excellent idea.”
It was moments later, I was down to wearing nothing but the haori Nobunaga had gifted me. His eyes took in my form even as his fingertips reached inside to trace over my bare flesh. We kissed and caressed each other, expressing our love and devotion to each other.
“I love you, Nobunaga.” I gasped out as our bodies slowly melded together, arms wrapping around each other.
“I love you, Ava.” Nobunaga replied, his eyes warm with pleasure, love, and desire.
We spent the night showering each other in love and proving our devotion in the way that words couldn’t. This was real and true love. We were two people who shared so much and loved each other as we were. This was a once in a lifetime love and I knew we would spend the rest of our lives seeing our dreams come true together. It wouldn’t always be easy, but we would have each other and we would be partners in all things.
This love would last a lifetime and more.
Finished...I hope you have all enjoyed this! I do plan to write a sequel to this after I write a few other warlords. I hope you've enjoyed this ride as much as I have and I look forward to writing more of warlord Ava!

Idk how to ask for a head canon, assuming I give you a scenario and you tell me how they react?
Okey, I’ll defo drop in often.
Tell me. How will your faves react if Mc was a lawyer in her time. She quickly gets adapted to their Sengoku-period-law and even offers otherworldly/spectacular/awesome/surprising/remarkably intelligent insight but only when they ask for her opinion. In other cases, she sits quietly and enjoys the peaceful parts of her life 😚
But what kind of scenarios do u prefer, romantic stuff, platonic or intelligent?
Omg yay my first request!
As for how you've described MC, I'm guessing that she keeps to herself most of the time? And only talks when someone asks for her opinion (I'm just making sure qwq). So I'll be writing my favs and anyone else I can think of in this scenario if it's okay.
Also english is not my first language so qwq
Lawyer MC
• Oda Forces
→ Nobunaga Oda
• he was surprised. And quite entertained when you down right refused to obey him. Or be treated as an object.
• he was even more surprised when you managed to refute a very angry Hideyoshi. Who was ready to throw hands at you because you defied his lord
• ho ho. Your first day and you managed to tame my right hand man? How bold. What a fierce fireball
• after that he would bug you to have debates with him. As unusual as that sounds.
• when you get closer, and he gets to know about your occupation. He was very intrigued.
• you fight for people's rights you say? How very amusing
• you better be prepared because he will put your skills to good use
→ Mitsuhide Akechi
• he was walking in the market one day when he saw you defending him from some of the soldiers who spoke ill of him
• all of that aside. Later, he especially pointed out how remarkable your remarks were
• after that you bet this man will always ask you for your opinion on literally every single thing
• when he found out you were from the future and a lawyer at that he was even more curious
• oh? So your job is to defend people? How very interesting
• needless to say, he started admiring you even more after that and he would often like to have long chats with you about your work
→ Ieyasu Tokugawa
• we know how he is always sour and often gives hurtful remarks
• you both had your differences
• but what angered him the most was how he could never refute your arguments whenever you fought.
• he was impressed. How were you so good?
• he gets an answer to that when you get closer and tell him about your occupation in the future
• another one who's very interested in your work and admires you for it
→ Mitsunari Ishida
• another one who loves to talk with you and hear your insights on certain issues
• when you two got close and it was revealed that you were from the future AND a lawyer, he was very interested in your job
• be prepared because he has several questions for you
• Uesugi-Takeda forces
→ Kenshin Uesugi
• we all know. That he hqtes women
• so he generally avoided you at first. And you kept to yourself too
• when you both got in a relationship however, and you told him you were a lawyer
• he was intrigued. Very intrigued. He would talk to you for hours. What were the laws in the modern Japan?
• he would be quite upset when you tell him that you can't just carry a whole sword in public or threaten someone
→Kanetsugu Naoe
• he kept the talking at a minimum when you first arrived at Kasugayama
• let's say you both had a disagreement over something and that led to a fight. He was fuming but very impressed by how strong your arguments were.
• after that, he would often come to you for insights on topics
• when you get closer and tell him that you are a lawyer. He was of course as the rest of them very very interested. What's a lawyer?
• he is also another one who admires you a lot more now, that he know what your work is about
Thankyou for reading! If you saw some errors please let me know!

nobunaga/hideyoshi and hideyoshi/mitsuhide are two obvious ships in ikesen that are both, lol, given a fair amount of tease in the routes, but personally i think a relatively unexplored gold mine is the nobunaga/mitsuhide dynamic. it sticks out to me with mitsuhide's route; first in the scene when mitsuhide is announcing his "engagement" with the mc in front of nobunaga and hideyoshi. afterward nobunaga says he would like to have a word with the mc alone, mitsuhide basically asks if he could stay too, nobunaga reiterates that he's dismissed, and mitsuhide complies without hesitation. (mc's and my reaction was the same here, btw: "...mitsuhide backed down immediately. interesting.") bc i mean yeah, how many people would mitsuhide easily back down against? he also refers to nobunaga as "lord nobunaga" or "my lord" even in his internal thoughts, and while on one hand it's obvious since, yeah, he's nobunaga's vassal, there's clearly a lot of wholehearted respect for nobunaga on mitsuhide's end. like mitsuhide's always taking the piss out of people, but nobunaga's probably one of the few who would be completely unfazed by him, and that's a fun dynamic. it's completely unlike mitsuhide's relationship with all the other warlords and even the mc.
the other thing that interests me is a bit more subtle, but mitsuhide's route delves into how it's affected his mentality to be involved in all this shady and morally questionable stuff, even if it's for the big picture ultimately. the thing is: that big picture is nobunaga's ambition. in other words, it's nobunaga's ambition - a world without classism, a desire mitsuhide shares - for which mitsuhide subjects himself to all That, and he states that he does it without regret despite what it's cost him. i think mitsuhide, like hideyoshi, is deeply, deeply loyal to nobunaga; while it's not that he overly invests his self-worth and identity into serving nobunaga like hideyoshi, he out of all the warlords is by far one of the ones with the most personal stakes in nobunaga's ambition. he has absolute faith in nobunaga and serves him with everything he has. he believes that nobunaga can truly, with the support of the other warlords, bring about the kind of world they both want. and that sort of unbridled trust, that sort of loyalty... it's just fascinating for me to consider that mitsuhide feels that way towards someone.

Why did it make me laugh so much?
Mai thinking about Nobu on Kicho's route.
I just imagined Nobu walking into her room with his masculine, domineering aura, took the teddy bear, without taking his eyes off Mai, and calmly left. It's like with candy… too silly.
Actually, that explains why Bearsace in Nobu's room. He just took it away.

All's Fair In Love & War- Nobunaga Ch. 5
Chapter 5
I stood beside Nobunaga, both of us with our backs pressed against a wall in his castle. Around the corner from us, Hideyoshi was standing speaking to a few of the soldiers who were under his charge. They were discussing their training regime.
Nobunaga and I had been quietly tailing Hideyoshi all morning, trying to figure out where he had hidden the konpeito. I was honestly having a hard time not laughing. This situation…it felt so ridiculous and yet it had been my idea. I mean Nobunaga and I were sneaking around his own castle trying to steal back the konpeito his right hand had hidden from him to protect his health.
We were like kids going on a secret mission to get the candy our mom had hidden from us. Even though we were actually two warlords instead of children. Though I did have to admit… this was kinda fun. And not just because of the absurdness of it all…but because I had learned that the greatly feared Nobunaga Oda, Devil King of the sixth Heaven, and one of the great unifiers of Japan had a weakness for candy.
After observing Hideyoshi, Nobunaga and I managed to determine the room where he had hidden the konpeito. Hideyoshi was walking out of the archives and letting out a sigh. “That’s the fourth time I’ve had to move it, but I know Lord Nobunaga won’t look for it in here.” He spoke to himself. “I hope he can forgive me, but part of being a good vassal is looking out for my lord and protecting him from all dangers including the ones that might seem harmless.”
“Ah, there you Hideyoshi.” Mitsuhide called as he approached him from down the hall.
“Did you need me for something?” Hideyoshi asked.
“Yes. We need to talk about this report of a dispute over some farmland and irrigation planning in one of the neighboring territories.” Mitsuhide answered him. The pair were then standing right there in the hall, Mitsuhide having some paper in his hand.
“We may have to come back under the cover of darkness.” Nobunaga whispered directly in my ear.
I fought against the tingly feeling that sent down my spine. There was something about his closeness…but I shook myself from it. I couldn’t let anything get to me. Besides it wouldn’t matter who was whispering in my ear. It was just a natural response. Ignoring the feeling, I peeked my head around the corner. Hideyoshi’s back was to us and the door to the archives was just right there. It would just need a quick dash.
“No need.” I whispered to Nobunaga before quickly and silently slipping across the hall and into the archives. I waited a moment to make sure that Hideyoshi hadn’t noticed me before I took a look around.
If I were a mother hen like Hideyoshi…where would I hide the konpeito from Nobunaga? I thought to myself as I looked around the room. I began to silently slink around the room, looking around before finding a small decorative vase. I peeked inside and saw the pouch. I reached inside and pulled it out, opening it to see the pink star shapes inside.
“Jackpot.” I whispered to myself before securing the pouch at my waist and then peeking my head outside. Nobunaga was still across the hall as Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide were still discussing the land dispute.
I gave Nobunaga a smug smile before sneaking out the door and then making my way back over to his side. “Got it.” I told him.
“Then let us go and enjoy the spoils of our victory.” Nobunaga told me as he began to stride off.
I followed after him and we were soon arriving in one of the inner rooms of the castle. I was surprised that he didn’t insist on his room in the tenshu or even my guest room. But then again, it was less likely that we would be discovered by Hideyoshi here.
We were sitting down on a couple of cushions and I pulled out the pouch. We split the candy as we had discussed, both of us smiling. “Victory has never tasted so sweet.” I said with a laugh.
“It is quite delicious.” Nobunaga agreed. “You are rather bold to have snuck behind Hideyoshi like that.”
“Sometimes you have no choice.” I replied with a shrug. “I got good at sneaking around like that when my father was still training me. I used to sneak into councils and other meetings.”
Nobunaga chuckled. “Were you ever discovered?”
“The first few times.” I answered. “But I became pretty good at it after those, learning from my mistakes…good enough that you didn’t know I was there for a couple of the meetings you and my father would have.”
Nobunaga looked at me. “I had a feeling you knew of those, but you witnessed a couple?”
I nodded. “Yes. I watched from another room or the ceiling.”
Nobunaga chuckled. “I was right…you truly are a fireball.”
“I hope that’s a compliment.” I replied, narrowing my eyes at him while popping another piece of candy in my mouth.
“It is indeed.” Nobunaga replied. “I admire your fiery spirit.”
“You’re just saying that because I managed to get your candy.” I replied with a wave of my hand.
“That might add to it, but I have admired your fiery spirit since you first set foot in my council room.” Nobunaga replied. “For a guest in my castle, you spoke rather boldly. I appreciate that kind of audacity.”
“I didn’t come this far by backing down from anyone.” I replied with a shrug. “The moment anyone sees me as weak or meek, then my territory is taken and my people could be walked all over by anyone…even potential allies.”
Nobunaga was looking at me, his expression rather serious. “You are strong, Ava.”
For some reason, I felt my cheeks growing warm at the compliment from him…or maybe it was the intense look in his eyes. I mentally shook myself and then changed the topic of conversation. We continued to chat as we snacked on our spoils of war.
We were in the middle of talking and joking with each other when there was a knock on the door before it quickly slid open. Hideyoshi and Jiro were on the other side. “We have been discovered.” Nobunaga said, keeping his konpeito tucked close as he glared at Hideyoshi.
“What in the hell?” Jiro asked, looking at me in complete surprise.
“Are…did you find where I hid that?” Hideyoshi asked in disbelief.
“Yes, I did.” I answered. “And how dare you hide konpeito from your lord. After everything Nobunaga has done for you.”
Nobunaga was quickly rising from his seat, his hand reaching for mine and pulling me up. “Come, we must go before they ruin this.” He said, pulling me out another door.
I felt a laugh bubble up from somewhere deep inside me and burst past my lips as Nobunaga and I exited the room we had just been relaxing in. This situation was completely ridiculous, but… my goodness it was…it was FUN! I couldn’t contain my laughter as we made our way through the halls and before making our way to the garden and finding a secluded spot.
When we reached the hidden spot in the garden, Nobunaga was looking at me, having yet to release my hand. “Why do you laugh so much?” He asked, though he wore a smile on his face…one that seemed happy rather than his usual smug or amused one.
I had to wipe at the tears that had worked their way to my eyes from how hard I was laughing. “I just…this situation…and the looks on…their faces…”
Nobunaga was letting out a laugh then as well, slowly releasing my hand as he did so. “It was rather funny to see such bewilderment on Hideyoshi’s face.” He said. “Especially when you scolded him.”
“I take it…he’s usually the one…to do the…scolding…”
“Yes.” Nobunaga replied.
We were both sitting down on the ground as we calmed our laughter. “Oh my… I haven’t laughed like that…in years.” I declared. “This adventure has been fun.”
Nobunaga was looking at me, a surprisingly gentle look on his face. “I haven’t laughed like that…ever that I can recall.” He admitted. “I find your company enjoyable, Ava…and that smile on your face and the sound of your laughter…pleasant.”
I felt my cheeks reddening at the way he was looking at me and his words. I looked away bashfully. “W-well…this is fun.” I agreed. “And…you’re surprisingly good company as well.”
“Of course I am.” Nobunaga replied, his usual smug smile appearing on his face once more.
I laughed and shook my head. “We should probably finish our konpeito before they come looking for us once more.”
“Agreed.” Nobunaga said. We were then going right back to eating and joking around.
Hideyoshi and Jiro…
“What…just happened?” Hideyoshi asked, his eyes still wide in disbelief.
“I-I am not sure.” Jiro answered. “It…looked like…they were…having fun.”
Sato was coming in from the other doorway Nobunaga and Ava had just run out of. Masamune and Mitsuhide were with her. “Is there a reason Lord Nobunaga and Lord Ava were just running out of here laughing?” She asked.
“Yes that was a rather strange sight.” Mitsuhide agreed.
“I thought it was rather funny…and good to see if I’m being honest.” Masamune said with a grin.
“They were in here eating konpeito and talking, when Hideyoshi and I came in here to bring them some reports.” Jiro answered.
“They didn’t even give us a chance to tell them we had reports.” Hideyoshi added. “And…Lord Ava lectured me…about hiding the konpeito from Lord Nobunaga.”
Sato was looking over at Jiro, a smile on her face. “It seems this alliance has been good for our lord.”
Jiro nodded. “Yes…even before the laughter, she was smiling rather genuinely when we came in.”
“What do you mean?” Masamune asked.
“I haven’t seen Lord Ava looking happy like that since…since the night Lord Riku and Lady Kaede were killed.” Sato said.
Jiro gave her a hard look. “We really shouldn’t be discussing this…”
Sato gave him just as hard of a look. “Come on, we are allies here.” She told him. “Besides, I just… I have a feeling about these guys.”
Jiro sighed. “You and your feelings…”
“They’ve never been wrong.” She told him.
“She was greatly affected by the death of her parents?” Hideyoshi asked.
Jiro sighed as he nodded. “Yeah…they were killed in front of her…both of us.” He said. “Neither of us had made it in time to save them…and the look on her face and the inhuman cry that left her that night…”
“He barely stopped her from killing the leader of the mercenaries.” Sato said. “Granted…he probably got worse once he was brought to me for questioning, but…she hasn’t smiled or laughed since that night.”
“What do you mean? She’s been smiling and laughing a lot since being here.” Masamune countered.
Sato shook her head. “Those aren’t the same smiles and laughter.”
“Yeah, this is the first time…it’s been genuine. It’s the first time she’s seemed…happy.” Jiro added.
“I see.” Hideyoshi replied.
“One could say the same about Lord Nobunaga.” Mitsuhide spoke up.
Hideyoshi sighed. “I hate to admit it…but yeah. It does seem like whatever is going on between them…is a good thing.”
Sato was looking over at Jiro. “I think…perhaps we should send a letter back home to the council. Have them prepare to have Lord Ava be gone just a bit longer.”
Jiro nodded. “Yes, we should extend our stay…though we do have to make sure she is back in time for the festival.”
“Yeah…that is important.” Sato agreed.
“Festival?” Hideyoshi asked. “And why is her attendance so important?”
“It’s an annual festival our people hold to bring good luck and a good harvest later in the year.” Sato answered. “It’s always done about a month after planting season has begun in the hopes it will bring plenty of rain for the growing season.”
“And they believe that if our lord is not in attendance, we will have a terrible harvest.” Jiro added.
“Interesting.” Mitsuhide said. He was then sharing a look with Hideyoshi and Masamune, the three of them coming to a silent agreement about what they needed to do next.
